Aged forest mulch in Brisbane, delivered by the truckload. The 20m³ load is the one most people take: enough for a big block or small acreage, and the best value per cubic metre. A 20m³ load is $700 delivered; 10m³ is $400 and 40m³ loads run up to $1,450 for acreage. It comes off our own tree jobs, sits in the stockpile for months before it goes near a garden, and it is delivered by our own tipper trucks across Brisbane’s south-west, Logan and Ipswich. Text the office on 0493 787 510 with your address and the load you want, and we will confirm a price and a day.

Most “forest mulch” sold around Brisbane is fresh chip: green, hot, and hungry for nitrogen. Ours is not. This page covers what aged forest mulch actually is, what a load costs, how much you need, where we deliver and the fire ant rules that apply to anyone moving mulch in South East Queensland. If you only want the price list, it is in the table below.

What is aged forest mulch, and why does “seasoned” matter?

Forest mulch is chipped tree: trunk, branch, bark and leaf, all through the chipper together. Ours comes from the gums, figs, jacarandas and camphor laurels the Dynamic crews take down across Brisbane, Logan and Ipswich every week. No treated timber, no building waste, no kerbside green bin.

The word that matters is aged. Fresh chip is pale, warm to the touch and still full of sugars. Put it on a garden bed and the fungi and bacteria breaking it down pull nitrogen out of your soil to do the job, which is why plants go yellow under new chip. Fresh chip also carries whatever seed was in the canopy. Our mulch sits in the stockpile at the Ellen Grove depot for months. By the time it is loaded it is dark brown, fine and settled, the heat has gone out of it and most of the seed with it. You can spread it straight onto new plantings. That is the whole difference between a load you fight for a season and a load that just works.

How much does a load of aged forest mulch cost in Brisbane?

Loads are priced by size and delivery zone, and the price is fixed before the truck leaves. These are the same prices as the Dynamic group’s online shop, so there is no “phone price” and “web price”.

Product Load sizes Price (delivered) Best for
Aged forest mulch, 20m³ (most popular) 20m³ $700 delivered ($35 per m³) Big block or small acreage, beds and paths in one load
Aged forest mulch, 10m³ 10m³ $400 delivered ($40 per m³) A standard suburban block’s beds
Aged forest mulch, 40m³ 40m³ Up to $1,450 depending on zone Acreage, orchards, long driveways and tracks
Double-grind palm mulch 10m³, 20m³, 40m³ From $300 for 10m³ Veggie patches, fruit trees, beds that want feeding
Commercial bulk forest mulch 20m³, 60m³, 120m³ $600 to $3,100 Estates, civil sites, schools, erosion control

Delivery zones A to D are measured from Greenbank 4124. Zone A is free delivery on residential loads. Further out costs a bit more because the truck is on the road longer, and that is the only reason. Minimum residential load is 10m³, which is a small tipper, but if you are tossing up between 10 and 20, take the 20m³. It is the load our trucks are built for, it works out cheaper per cubic metre, and mulch keeps: the spare pile in the corner always gets used.

How much mulch do I need?

Measure the area in square metres (length times width), then multiply by the depth in metres. For garden beds and under trees, 75 mm is the right depth: thick enough to hold moisture and stop weeds, thin enough that water still gets through. Paths and big open areas can take 100 mm.

Load Covers at 75 mm Covers at 100 mm Rough guide
20m³, $700 (most popular) about 265m² about 200m² Big block, small acreage, or a suburban block done properly with some left over
10m³, $400 about 130m² about 100m² A standard suburban block’s garden beds, no spare
40m³ about 530m² about 400m² Acreage, orchards, long driveways and tracks

A 20m³ load went out to an acreage block at Mount Crosby last week and another to Cedar Creek. Both were for garden beds and the tracks between them, and both owners told us the same thing people always say: it looked like far too much on the driveway and was gone in a weekend.

Where do you deliver aged forest mulch?

Residential loads cover Greenbank, Park Ridge, Browns Plains, Forest Lake, Inala, Springfield, Goodna, Redbank Plains, Jimboomba, Logan and Ipswich, and the suburbs around them. Commercial loads cover roughly 50 km around Forest Lake, with Moreton Bay and the Sunshine Coast quoted per job. We deliver, we do not do pickups: the depot is a working tree yard with chippers and excavators moving all day and it is not open to the public.

On the day, the truck needs a firm, flat spot on your property to tip, clear of overhead lines and off council land. A driveway or a flat patch of lawn is perfect. The driver texts when on the way, tips the load, and is gone. If the spot is tight, send a photo with your order and we will tell you whether the truck fits.

Mulch after stump grinding: grindings versus aged mulch

This is the question we get every week, because we grind stumps across Brisbane and leave a pile of grindings behind. Stump grindings are not the same thing as aged forest mulch. Grindings are a mix of fresh wood, bark, roots and soil. They are fine as a path base, under a kids’ play area or as a top-up on a bare patch you are not planting for a year. They are a poor choice on a vegetable bed or a new garden, for the same nitrogen reason as fresh chip, and they can carry whatever was living in the stump.

Our usual advice after a grind: leave the grindings in the hole to settle, or rake them onto a path, and put aged forest mulch on the beds. If you are getting stumps done and want a load of mulch on the same visit, say so when you book and we will line the truck up for the same day. Our guide to using seasoned mulch in the garden covers depths, keeping it off the trunk and what to do with it around natives.

Fire ants and moving mulch in South East Queensland

Most of Brisbane, Logan and Ipswich sits inside the fire ant biosecurity zone, and mulch is one of the materials that can carry fire ants if it is moved carelessly. Anyone who moves mulch within the zone, including the person buying it, has an obligation under the Biosecurity Regulation to follow the movement rules. The fire ant movement controls explain what applies to your address. Our stockpile is managed and inspected under those rules, and we will not tip a load on a property with an active nest. If you see one, report it before you spread anything.

The other pest question is termites. Mulch is not a termite magnet on its own, but keep it 300 mm back from the edge of the slab and off the weep holes so you can still see the base of the wall. There is more on that on our stumps and termites page.

Why buy mulch from a tree crew instead of a landscape yard?

Because you know where it came from. A landscape yard buys chip in from whoever has it, mixes batches and sells it by the scoop. Ours is one source, one stockpile, aged on purpose, and it comes from the arborists and stump grinders of the Dynamic group, the same people who took the trees down. The trucks are ours, the drivers are our crew, and if there is ever a problem with a load you ring the bloke who sold it to you, not a counter.

It also costs far less by volume than anything in a bag. A 10m³ load is about 140 of the 70-litre bags from the hardware store, delivered, for less than a third of the money. The tree removal side of the group, Dynamic Tree Solutions, runs the mulch delivery trucks, and you can also order a load online there if you would rather pay by card and have the price on screen.

How to order a load

  1. Text the office on 0493 787 510 with your address, the load size (20m³ for most blocks, 10 or 40m³ if you need it) and a photo of where you want it tipped.
  2. We confirm the price for your zone and a delivery day, usually within a few days.
  3. The driver texts on the way, tips the load, done. Cash or card on delivery, or pay by card online.

Or use the quote form and we will text you back. If you are also after a stump ground, say so and we will price the lot in one go.

Aged forest mulch: frequently asked questions

What is the difference between aged forest mulch and fresh wood chip?

Fresh chip is pale, warm and still full of sugars, so the microbes breaking it down pull nitrogen out of your soil and plants go yellow under it. Aged forest mulch has sat in a stockpile for months: it is dark, fine, cool and settled, and it can go straight onto new plantings without that nitrogen drawdown.

How much does aged forest mulch cost delivered in Brisbane?

A 20m³ load of aged forest mulch is $700 delivered, which is the most popular load and the best value at $35 per cubic metre. A 10m³ load is $400 and 40m³ loads run up to $1,450 depending on your delivery zone. Zone A around Greenbank is free delivery. Double-grind palm mulch starts at $300 for 10m³ and commercial bulk loads run $600 to $3,100.

How many square metres does 10 cubic metres of mulch cover?

About 130 square metres at 75 mm deep, which is the right depth for garden beds, or about 100 square metres at 100 mm for paths and open areas. 20m³ covers roughly 265m² and 40m³ about 530m² at 75 mm.

Can I pick up mulch from your yard?

No. It is delivery only. The depot is a working tree yard with chippers, trucks and excavators moving all day, so there are no pickups or walk-ins. The truck tips the load on a firm, flat spot on your property.

Are stump grindings the same as forest mulch?

No. Stump grindings are fresh wood, bark, roots and soil from the grind, fine for paths and bare patches but a poor choice on new garden beds. Aged forest mulch is seasoned chip with the heat and most of the seed gone. If you are having stumps ground, we can deliver a load of aged mulch on the same day.

Do fire ant rules apply when I buy a load of mulch?

Yes, across most of Brisbane, Logan and Ipswich. Mulch can carry fire ants, so anyone moving it inside the biosecurity zone has to follow the movement controls under the Biosecurity Regulation. Our stockpile is managed under those rules and we will not tip on a property with an active nest.
